For Sale Pub, Budapest: The Pub That Tells a Thousand Stories

|

For Sale Pub, Budapest is located in Pest and is the perfect place for you to visit with your partner, friends or family. If you visit For Sale Pub, you are sure to remember its unique interior, and hopefully the messages you read on the wall!

What Makes For Sale Pub So Unique?

The defining feature of the pub is its incredible walls, pinned of thousands and thousands of notes from travellers all over the globe. The walls are full of inspiring quotes, messages, and beautiful art work that is sure to make you smile.

When entering the pub, it is quite overwhelming the sheer amount of notes that are present. You can barely see the walls and ceilings!

The notes arent the only unique thing about this pub though, the pub is full of peanuts. Peanuts are placed in baskets on the table and the ‘etiquette’ is to simply chuck the peanut shells onto the floor. There are barrels full of peanuts all over the pub. So not only is the place full of notes, it is also full of peanuts, making the experience really unique (But perhaps not one for those of you who have nut allergies!) Additionally, the floor is full of hay/ straw making the pub have a western feel to it.

For Sale Pub – Prices

If you’re thinking of visiting For Sale Pub during your trip to Budapest, I’d say it’s reasonably priced—maybe a little on the expensive side, but not overly so. Considering the unique experience and the amazing atmosphere, delicious food, and fantastic ale they offer, it’s definitely worth it! If you fancy having a glance at the For Sale Pub Menu before going, you will see a wide range of food and drink offerings. I remember actually being quite shocked by just how many different food options there were!

Is For Sale Pub a Tourist Trap?

Some might consider For Sale Pub a tourist trap, and that’s a fair assumption. At the end of the day you can probably get a more authentic Hungarian experience elsewhere where. However, I believe the concept behind the pub is brilliant, as it brings together a community of global travellers through writing. Visitors leave notes filled with wisdom, quotes, life stories, and travel experiences, making each visit an exciting, unique experience, and I absolutely love the idea of connecting with people from all over the world through their written words. So yes, maybe it is by nature a tourist trap, but it’s a cool one!! (& one worth the money in my experience).

Writing Your Note

At For Sale Pub, you can grab a pen, paper, and pin (all free of charge) and leave your own note for others to discover. Simply ask your waiter and they will bring you a little cup with all the art supplies.

I placed my note next to my table, writing a quote that had particularly resonated with me that week:

“When you have everything in the world and you look for more & more, that is the definition of unhappiness.”

I added this quote, some other comments, and my Instagram handle.

Top tip: Don’t overthink your note, just put whatever comes to your head first! Believe me if you overthink it too much you will ruin your experience and that’s not worth it. After you have written the note you can pin it anywhere you fancy. It is a little tricky to get your pin into the wall but with a little bit of patience, struggle and muscle you will have your note pinned in no time.

What Do People Put On Their Notes?

Some of my favourite notes were particularly sweet and meaningful, and it was such a joy to read the different experiences shared by people from all around the world. One note that really touched me was from someone who had cycled all the way to Budapest from Vienna! Many notes also provided a glimpse into the writer’s life, and some of the inspirational quotes, a nod to their personal experiences.

Another note that caught my attention was from a traveller who was on their first trip outside of Canada. I found myself wondering why chose Budapest—what had brought them here? Was there something specific they wanted to do in Budapest? I was so curious to know more. Additionally, some notes featured incredible drawings, and others left behind Polaroids, which added a personal touch to the entire experience.

Connecting With Others From All Around the World

For Sale Pub, Budapest is a brilliant spot to connect with other travellers. Not only are you in a pub, where it is easy to talk to others, but you can also connect with those who have left their contact details.

A top tip for you is to add your social handle onto your note. I added my Instagram handle and I’m so glad I did because just a week later, I received a message on Instagram from a fellow traveller who had seen my note. To this day we continue to talk and it is easily one of the most wholesome experiences I have had travelling. It was and still is an incredible connection to have as we align so well on our interests with travel. Bex shares her travel stories on social media and it is always a pleasure to see what incredible adventure she is on. From Budapest to the Maldives, she travels every corner of the world and is always sharing incredible pictures. Her message was such a highlight of my day, and it was such a surreal experience to connect with someone who had found my note.

So Should You Visit For Sale Pub?

Yes, yes, yes! But definitely not if you have a nut allergy. The food is incredible, the vibes immaculate and my experience is simply unforgettable. I visited For Sale Pub whilst I was interrailing Europe, and it was easily one of my favourite places we stopped for food. An unforgettable experience.

  • Hi, I’m Charlie – Founder of Travel Girls Corner

I’m Charlie, a 22-year-old travel blogger with a passion for uncovering the magic in every corner of the world. My travel journey began with family adventures, walking thousands of miles through cities and countryside, and grew into something bigger with my five-week Interrail trip across Europe in September 2024. That trip didn’t just give me the travel bug, it taught me how to navigate Europe, discover what I’m capable of, and boosted my confidence both in myself and as a traveller.

Before I go any further, I want to be upfront: all of my experiences come from my perspective as a white woman. I recognise that my background and privilege shape how I travel and interact with the world, and I strive to approach every adventure with respect, curiosity, and humility.

Interrailing was also what inspired Travel Girls Corner. The internet is full of travel information, destination guides, cultural tips, and even the Kardashians’ holiday snaps, but I wanted a place that felt real. A space where travellers could get honest, first-hand advice from someone who’s actually been there. This blog is all about sharing authentic travel stories, practical tips, and detailed guides to help you plan trips you’ll genuinely enjoy. Whether you’re looking for luxury experiences, budget-friendly adventures, or planning your next big European getaway, my aim is to inspire and guide you every step of the way.

    Why I Travel

I travel because it’s more than just ticking off destinations. It’s about discovering hidden gems, immersing yourself in new cultures, and connecting with yourself or your travel buddies. In my opinion, travel broadens your perspective, teaches lessons you can’t learn from a screen, and helps you grow into a more well-rounded person, aspects invaluable to you as an individual.

Too often, we get stuck in our little bubbles and forget how much there is to explore in the world. That curiosity, that sense of adventure, is what drives me to keep moving, seeing new places, and sharing those experiences with others. Life’s too short to visit the same spots over and over. The world is our oyster, full of lessons about ourselves and others, and I can’t wait to explore it with you, one street, one city, and one adventure at a time.

    Why You Can Trust Me

Everything on Travel Girls Corner comes from my own travel experiences. I write about places I’ve actually visited, from Interrail adventures across Europe to city walks with my family, and I share both the highlights and the challenges. This ensures you get advice that is honest, practical, and actionable.

My goal is simple: to help travellers plan trips that are enjoyable, realistic, and unforgettable, while giving you the confidence to explore Europe and beyond with ease.

When you read this blog, you’re learning from someone who’s been there, done it, and hopefully loved every step of the journey.
